This 9 Sacred Srivaishnava Temples located near Tirunelveli are known as Nava Thirupathi. Lord Shiva graces in the temple as a swayambumurthi. Worshipping the Lord in this temple is as equal to worshipping the Lord in Kasi – Varanasi. This temple is noted for the three importances of Murthy (the deity), Thalam (holiness of the place) and theertham the holy water. 

This sivasthalam is one of the Pancha Sabha Temples of Lord Shiva. The painting of Natarajar and Sivagami can been seen inside the sanctum sanctorum. This sivasthalam temple is located on the foot of the Kuttralam hill forming a part of the Western Ghats. The Waterfalls & Cascade are visible. The shrine for Kuttralanathar is in the center & Goddess Parasakthi is to the left.

Kanthimathi Ammam Kovil is the most prominent temple in Tirunelveli. The temple has a number of shrines, with those of Nelliappar, Natarajar. This temple has six yearly festivals on its calendar. Brahmotsavam festival during the Tamil month of Thai is the prominent festival celebrated in the temple.

Tenkasi (South Kasi) is famous for its Ulgamman Temple and its Shiva Temple. The gopuram or the entry gateway remains among the highest in southern Tamil Nadu. The main deity here is Kasi Viswanathar (Shiva). This temple has beautiful sculptures and also has musical stone pillars that emit notes of different pitch when tapped with fingers.
